The Innovation Nation Mind Mapping
Challenge – Part 3
February 20th, 2013 by iMindMap
Welcome to Part 3 of the challenge where we have a double-whammy
of activities for you today. You already have your nations, name, flag, map and
language – now it’s time to invent a memorable national dish and discover what
wildlife frolics freely in and around your country’s borders. If you’ve fallen
a bit behind, no need to worry, take a look at Exercise
1: Geography or Exercise
2: Languages
Exercise 3: Home
Economics
Whatever happens, it’s probably a better
idea than Haggis…
Activity:
Every country has a national dish. Most are fantastic, some are not… but all are made with local ingredients (things you seem to always have a lot of in the house).
Materials Needed:
Pen, paper, whatever is lurking at the back of your cupboard…

Part 1 : Come up with
ingredients for your dish
Mind Map healthy ingredients with your children. Keep a close eye on this, as leaving it up to them will probably result in a potentially tooth-rotting concoction of sugar and chocolate if you ever actually decide to make it

Part Two: Mix the
ingredients together in the most creative way possible
If you are having trouble with this, simply combine every three or four branches together and see what you come up with. Using my Mind Map you could have:

As you can see, this has come up with a selection of possible
tasty dishes and, of course, some completely mad ones.
Part Three: Come up with a name for your creation
Many of the best national dishes have interesting or memorable
names. Some of my favourites include: Pepperpot (Guyana), Wiener Schnitzel
(Austria), and Judd mat Gaardebounen (Luxembourg).
You can create your own original name and then, if you are
feeling very brave, you could always make it…
Please Note: ThinkBuzan
will accept no responsibility for whatever you may create or any indigestion
said creation may cause.
Exercise 4: Science
Don’t try this at home…use
the back garden.
Activity:
It’s time to see what amazing creatures live in your country. Make a Mind Map of what animals and plants are in your garden (or local green space).

Part One:
Mind Map all the animals and plants that live in your house, garden or local
green space
It’s time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Try and find as many different animals and plants in your local area and then record them on a Mind Map. This can include any pets that you may have, or flowers inside the house. If you can find enough of them, you can even help your child to make a food chain.

Part Two:
Select one plant and one animal to become your nation’s symbols
Every nation needs a national flower and a national animal. Between you, decide which one of the animals and which one of the plants you found deserves that honour. If you are particularly artistic, you could combine parts from different plants or animals to make your own unique creature.

Once you have done this
remember to add these two new topics to your Innovation Nation Mind Map and
stay tuned for the final part of the challenge.
