5 ways iMindMap can help you prepare for parenthood

5 ways iMindMap can help you prepare for parenthood

July 11th, 2013 by iMindMap

Feeling the pressure of a huge life change? Check out our 5 innovative ways you can use iMindMap to get ready for parenthood.

1. Lists, lists and more lists

Lists can become monotonous, frustrating and downright disheartening. Why not try a different approach: make a Mind Map in iMindMap to display your wish list, or take a shortcut and download our free Mind Map template below.
View your Mind Map on your phone (Apple or Android supported devices), add items to your map as something catches your eye, and sync your updates in the iMindMap cloud (with iMindMap Freedom). As you make purchases, delete or tick items using icons from the iMindMap library. It’s the modern day (and less frustrating) shopping list!

2. Make a Financial Plan

According to the Daily Mail, starting a family can cost more than £5000. Create a realistic financial plan in iMindMap, and learn to budget effectively. Watch the iMindMap Video Tutorial to discover how to export your Mind Map to Microsoft Excel, iWork Numbers or OpenOffice Calc. To complete the process, select the nested table option when you export your Mind Map so all the figures in your map will be totalled – your complete financial plan at your fingertips. What’s more, if unexpected expenses come your way, easily adjust your plan in iMindMap to keep on track.

3. Healthy Eating

Eating healthily will help keep you fit through the sleepless nights to come. Try Mind Mapping your shopping list to make the weekly shop as stress-free as possible. With each branch as a food group, aim for a fairly symmetrical map to achieve a balanced diet, including plenty of fruit, vegetables, protein and vitamin-rich foods. For exciting and tasty menus, see the examples attached to the Mind Map below.

4. Choosing your baby’s name

Your choice of name will shape your child’s identity for life – so choose wisely! Be proactive and brainstorm your favourite names in a Mind Map. Review, add and amend names as your feelings change. In your Mind Map, draw child branches from each name and consider associations, how the name fits with your surname, and meanings. Approaching this task with a fresh perspective can produce surprising results.

5. Create a Rota

When you’re expecting your new arrival, there are a million things to do. Create a rota in iMindMap and make a note of which tasks your family and friends will be doing and when they will be doing them. Once you’re rota is complete, print it off and stick it to your fridge. This way, you’ll feel more organised and it will keep everything running smoothly!

7 ways to use iMindMap as a teacher

www.thinkbuzan.com December 2nd, 2014 by iMindMap Teaching effectively centres around the ability to plan and deliver effective, engaging lessons throughout the entire school year. As a teacher, we know that time is often in short supply, and so here are seven ways in which  iMindMap  can help you find a little bit more of it, by improving your lesson planning, preparation and delivery. 1. Curriculum Planning Mind Mapping your curriculum plans can save you time, as well as vastly improve the structure and clarity of your teaching. A good place to start is by brainstorming ideas. With iMindMap’s  Brainstorm View* , you can add everything about a topic to the infinite cork-board canvas. Type away on the coloured sticky notes and group your ideas together. When you have finished, select the Mind Map Vie...

Mind Mapping for Memory: Why is it useful?

April 29th, 2013 by iMindMap In this guest post, Thomas Jones, a Psychology student who spent some time working with us at the ThinkBuzan Headquarters, applies his know-how to Mind Mapping and the cognitive processes and theories behind the technique… Mind mapping is one of the most powerful tools in anyone’s arsenal when it comes to remembering vast quantities of information; it provides the user with their own personal tree of knowledge on a subject of their choice. Semantic Network Model One of the ideas behind Mind Maps is Semantic Network Models (Collins & Quillian, 1969) which says that everyone has their own personal spider’s web, connecting everything they know about objects together, e.g. Red is connected to fire, blood, love. If one section of the networking models is activated, the surrounding links are activated. Our own personal experiences shape these connections and everybody’s semantic network models are different. Mind Mapping takes a certain subject an...
